Climate Financing in the 13th Session of the Climate Action Training Program

As part of the comprehensive program for training youth in climate action (2024), the climate financing session was held on the evening of Wednesday, July 10th, led by environmental finance expert Dr. Said Shakri.

Dr. Shakri began the session by introducing the key topics and defining the concept of “climate financing,” which refers to “financial resources directed to support efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change and adapt to it.”

He discussed the recognized mechanisms for obtaining climate financing loans and the associated commitments, emphasizing the importance of Arab countries establishing accredited national agencies to receive climate support, with well-planned programs to contribute to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate changes.

Dr. Shakri pointed out that obtaining climate financing for developing countries, including Arab nations, is a right that these countries have from the international community and falls under the climate justice that needs to be achieved globally. He noted that countries in our region are among the most affected by the impacts of climate change caused by the activities of industrial nations.

In conclusion, Dr. Shakri stated, “We are living the problem and not benefiting from financing opportunities. We should not rely on foreign countries for funding; we need to focus on afforestation and harness the creativity of our youth in this regard.”

The comprehensive program for training youth in climate action (2024), launched by the National Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development in partnership with Jerash University, the Arab Youth Network for Sustainable Development, and the Aman Initiative in Jordan, is the first training program of its kind in the Arab arena.
