Report: Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change… Session 14: Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change
As part of a series of sessions for the comprehensive youth training program on climate action, aimed at raising awareness among Arab youth about the impacts and damages of climate change and how to adapt, find solutions, and the importance of shaping a safe and healthy environment for all.
The session was presented by Engineer Maha Al-Badani, a researcher and activist in the field of climate and environmental adaptation, and a participant in climate and environmental negotiations and conferences.
The session focused on the urgent need to adapt to climate change, its causes, and the impact on the Earth, citing examples of changes in the seas, rising sea levels above normal levels, and coastal erosion, as well as rising heat waves, cold waves, earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods, and their impact on agriculture.
Al-Badani mentioned the impact of climate change on the threat of cities being submerged by 2050 if the necessary precautions and measures are not taken.
She also clarified that the impact of climate change is not only in the known areas but in all fields and is currently being studied.
Al-Badani also explained the global adaptation strategies, which fall within the framework of international agreements on adaptation and commitments, as well as national plans to mitigate the effects of climate change, youth initiatives and their role, and technological innovations in adaptation.
She concluded the session by saying that adaptation helps us live and adapt in the face of change, and that mitigation is the responsibility of major countries and governments, while youth and their initiatives have pushed many governments to pay attention to this issue.
