Report 14: Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change
Within the sessions of the Comprehensive Youth Training Program for Climate Action (2024), a special session was held on the evening of Thursday, July 18th, to discuss “Adapting to the Impacts of Climate Change” with Ms. Mona Awad, Global Campaigns and Communications Coordinator for the “A Nation for the Earth” project at Greenpeace Middle East and North Africa.
Ms. Awad addressed the significant challenges facing our world today due to climate change, and its impact on local economies and communities in various aspects. She emphasized the importance of redoubling efforts to adapt to the impacts of climate change, as they have begun to affect many aspects of life in today’s world.
Trainer Awad pointed out that efforts to adapt to climate change require action from countries, companies, institutions, and individuals. These efforts at the international level include developing policies to reduce carbon emissions and slow down the pace of global warming, in addition to developing national policies that take into account preparedness and early response to climate change disasters. Individuals can also take steps and adopt environmentally positive behaviors, such as planting trees.
The session, held via Zoom and lasting two hours, was enriched by numerous discussions and interventions from participants regarding initiatives and projects that can be launched in our countries to contribute to environmental protection within the context of active participation in future efforts to adapt to climate change.
The Comprehensive Youth Training Program for Climate Action (2024), launched by the National Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development in partnership with the University of Jerash, the Arab Youth Network for Sustainable Development, and the Aman Initiative in Jordan, is the first training program of its kind in the Arab world.
