The National Forum for Environment and Sustainable Development (NFESD) is a Yemeni civil, non-governmental, non-profit organization that was established in Yemen in 2021. The forum is working in areas related to the environment, sustainable development in Yemen.
About the Program:
The NFESD Water Security Program aims to improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) in underserved communities. The program works towards achieving this through various activities, including water source development, sanitation infrastructure improvement, hygiene promotion, community empowerment, capacity building, disaster preparedness, and advocacy. We are committed to sustainable water management practices, ensuring water quality, and empowering communities to take ownership of their WASH needs.
About the Volunteer Role:
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated volunteers to support the NFESD Water Security Program Coordinator. Volunteers will play a vital role in implementing program activities and contributing to the overall goal of improved WASH access. Specific volunteer roles may include:
- Water Source Development Support: Assisting with feasibility studies, community mobilization, and infrastructure installation for new water sources (boreholes, wells, rainwater harvesting systems).
- Sanitation Infrastructure Improvement Support: Supporting needs assessments, facilitating the construction of sanitation facilities (toilets, latrines, handwashing stations), and promoting hygiene behaviors during construction phases.
- Hygiene Promotion Campaign Support: Developing materials, conducting workshops, and awareness sessions in communities and schools on handwashing, safe sanitation, and menstrual hygiene management.
- Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) Facilitation Support: Assisting with community meetings, facilitating triggering sessions to promote open defecation-free environments, and supporting sanitation committee establishment.
- Capacity Building and Training Support: Assisting with the logistics of training programs and workshops for community members and local organizations on sustainable WASH practices.
- Monitoring and Evaluation Support: Assisting with data collection, conducting assessments, and contributing to report writing to monitor the program’s impact.
- Advocacy and Policy Engagement Support: Supporting research, communication efforts, and networking with stakeholders to advocate for policies and investments in WASH.
- Partnerships and Collaboration Support: Assisting with networking, liaison activities, and communication with partner organizations working in the WASH sector.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in program activities as assigned.
- Work collaboratively with program staff and community members.
- Follow program guidelines and procedures.
- Attend relevant training sessions.
- Communicate effectively with team members and community members.
- Maintain accurate records of activities.
- Adhere to the organization’s volunteer policies.
Qualifications:
- Passion for improving access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team.
- Willingness to learn and adapt.
- Relevant skills and experience in areas such as community engagement, training, data collection, or technical skills related to water and sanitation are desirable but not required.
- Fluency in English Language.
